Back to School?

Teacher, I'm here with you. I've been teaching for over 10 years and this is the hardest and least rewarding school year yet. We are working overtime, stretching ourselves to the breaking point to connect with our students and their families.
We will get through this and get back to what we do best, but in the mean time - take care of yourself first and do what you can.

What's happening in your school district? We started the year remote and are moving to hybrid this week. Students will come to school 2 days a week. I will see half my class at a time, with everyone being at home on Wednesdays.
I've thought a lot about what a safe hybrid classroom will look like. What will the space look like? What will the learning and exploration look like? How will students interact safely?

Here's what I've come up with so far:
When students enter the classroom, they wash their hands and find their spot at the table. They will have a table buddy who they can talk and play with through the window.
After table time, we meet for a socially distanced circle time. Everyone has their own spot.
For centers, students have their own center for the day. Again they have a center buddy. Their buddy has the same toys so they can play together.
Everyday we will get outside for a mask break. We'll need it. We're going in cold and rain.

I'm worried and anxious.  Worried about myself and my family. I'm worried about my co-workers and their families. I'm worried about my students and their families. We will all being wearing masks and washing our hands like crazy.

I'm excited. I'm excited to see those curious preschoolers jump into this school year. It will be a challenge and a different way to learn but I know we can do it! I'm with you teachers!
